Dorothy Marie Melideo, 77, of 24 Fairview Ave. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center, where she had been admitted Oct. 20.
Born in Springfield on Jan. 21, 1926, daughter of John and Agnes Irene Mathews Cahalan, she was 11 when her family moved to Pittsfield. She attended Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Melideo was employed as a manager at the former Ames department store in Lenox, until her retirement in 1976. Prior to that, she was a manager at the former Grant's department store.
She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church, and enjoyed swimming with her friends at the Girls Club and bingo.
Following her retirement, she was a volunteer for many years with the BMC Auxiliary.
She and her husband, Henry Melideo, were married May 3, 1947, in St. Teresa's Church in Pittsfield.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Christine Budney MacPike of Shalimar, Fla., and Abbie A. Gore of Ipswich, and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Dorothy Marie Cahalan Melideo, who died Oct. 27, 2003, will be tomorrow, Oct. 30, at 9:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a funeral Mass at 10 at Mount Carmel Church.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today, Wednesday, from 4 to 7. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Nikolos M. Budney of Birmingham, Ala., Shawn C. Budney of Jacksonville, Fla., Drew Gore and Maggie Gore of Ipswich. A brother, John Cahalan Jr., is deceased.
