Helen G. Harder

Helen G. Harder, 96, of Bernard Avenue died yesterday at Springside of Pittsfield.

Born on Jan. 31, 1907, in New Britain, N.Y., she was the daughter of Arthur B. and Addie Carpenter Greenman.

She and her late husband, Maurice P. Harder, owned Harder's Grocery Store in Valatie, N.Y., for many years.

In 1991, they moved to Pittsfield.

Mrs. Harder attended First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Women's Friendship chapter. She helped with the Monday night meals for the hungry and was a volunteer for Elder Services of Berkshire County.

She enjoyed baking and at Christmastime sent cookies overseas.

Her husband died in 1994.

She leaves a daughter, Marcia Scace of Pittsfield; a son, Rodney D. Harder of Salem, Ore., six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL HOME -- The funeral for Helen G. Harder, who died Oct. 28, 2003, will be conducted tomorrow, Oct. 30, at 2 at BOND FUNERAL HOME, Route 9, Valatie, N.Y., by the Rev. Dr. Robert Rennie, pastor of First Baptist Church of Pittsfield. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie.

Friends may call Thursday from 1 to 2 before the service. For those who wish, memorial donations may be sent to the Dale Lock Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church, 88 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. She leaves her six grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Rich Belair, Allyn and Kathy Scace, Douglas and Carrie Harder, Chris and Nancy Harder, Michael and Kathy Harder, and Nichole and Matthew Clarke.
