Clarence E. Rudd

Clarence E. Rudd, 86, of 89 Lincoln St. died Saturday at home.
Born in Fulton, N.Y., on Dec. 31, 1916, son of Charles A. Rudd and Lucille B. Ward Rudd Royer, he was educated in schools there.
He moved to Pittsfield in 1989.
He became involved in the Salvation Army in the 1920s and was active in the corps throughout most of his life.
A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served in Africa and Germany as well as in the Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno campaigns in Italy. During his military service on the front lines, he led regular prayer meetings and ministered to enlisted men and officers.
Mr. Rudd retired from State University of New York at Oswego in 1977, where he had been a custodian for 11 years. He also operated a Christian bookstore for 10 years in Oswego, selling the business in 1980. He also worked at Fitzgibbons Boiler Works in Oswego for 15 years, manufacturing components of military tanks during the Korean War.
His wife, the former Annabelle Mae SeaCamp, whom he married Feb. 17, 1935, died Sept. 9, 1990.
He leaves a son, Clarence C. Rudd of Noblesville, Ind.; a daughter, Patricia L. Trumble of Pittsfield; two brothers, Harold Rudd of Crystal, Mich., and the Rev. William Rudd of Phoenix; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Following cremation, a memorial service for Clarence E. Rudd, 86, who died Oct. 25, 2003, will be held tomorrow, Oct. 28, at 2 at the Salvation Army, 300 West St., with Lt. Smith officiating. Burial will be private and at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., which is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rudd is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Katherine B. Rudd; his son-in-law, Bruce L. Trumble; six grandchildren, Christopher, Edward and Andrew Rudd, Emily Rudd Croke, and Patricia and Patrick Manchester; his former wife, Ellen Crady Rudd, and many nieces and nephews.
