Gerhard P. Hoelter, 96, of Melbourne Place Assisted Living Community died yesterday morning at home.
Born in Chicago on Nov. 17, 1906, son of Edward and Eugenia Eleanora Bittner Hoelter, he was educated in schools there.
His father was pastor of Chicago's Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
He was a longtime resident of Weston, Conn., until moving to Melbourne Place in October 2000.
An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served with the 365th Fighter Group in the invasion of Normandy.
Mr. Hoelter was an executive with American Can Co. for many years, retiring in 1971.
He was a communicant of Faith Lutheran Church, a member of the Bach Chorale Society and sang in the church choir.
He was a lifelong equestrian.
He leaves his wife, the former Jane Katherine Lippold; a son, Kurt Hoelter of Canaan, N.Y.; a daughter, Kimi Cunningham of Los Angeles, and a grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Gerhard P. Hoelter will be private. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include a grandson, Kurt Parker of Pittsfield. Mr. Hoelter will be greatly missed.
