June Evelyn Rubin

June Evelyn Rubin, 69, of 422 Barker Road died Monday afternoon at home of cancer.

Born in Wilmington, Del., on March 4, 1934, daughter of James Bowman Jr. and Evelyn Annand Bowman Gilland, she was raised by her grandparents, George and Jessie Annand. She graduated from the high school there in 1952 and from the University of Delaware in 1956.

She moved to Pittsfield in 1958.

Mrs. Rubin was employed by the former Jennifer House in Great Barrington for a year before its closing in 1991. Prior to that, she was an assistant swimming director; executive director of the former Girls Club, where she had worked for 20 years, and a manager at Talbots in Lenox for 12 years.

She was a member of the Ralph Froio Senior Center and a former member of the Junior League.

She enjoyed walking and doing yoga daily, arts and crafts, playing Scrabble, cribbage and bridge, hiking, gardening, cooking, baking, entertaining at home and animals.

Her husband, Edward Rubin, whom she married May 3, 1969, died in November 1991.

She leaves her stepfather, Paul Gilland of Wilmington.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- June Evelyn Bowman Rubin, age 69, died Oct. 20, 2003, surrounded by her family and friends. She is also survived by her nephews, Ron Rubin of Portland, Ore., and Lane Rubin of Santa Barbara, Calif.; her niece, Debbie Rubin of Golden, Colo.; her sister-in-law, Rhoda Rubin of Pittsfield; and her cousins, David Annand of Landenburg, Pa., Doug Kee of Plymouth, Mich., and David Kee of Lincoln University, Pa.

She will be sorely missed by her many friends. There will be no calling hours. Friends may come to share stories and memories on Friday from 10 to noon at her home, 42 Barker Road. Following cremation, her remains will be scattered at a later date at sea at Rehoboth Beach, Del.

In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, which is in charge of arrangements.
