Gertrude Mildred Rolin Brister

Gertrude Mildred Rolin Brister, 77, of 10 Union Court died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided since Oct. 8.

Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 20, 1926, daughter of Richard M. and Marjorie Sigsworth Doyle, she attended the former St. Joseph's Junior High School.

She later lived in California and Mississippi before returning to Pittsfield in 1985.

Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Brister had been employed as a seamstress at Spencer Inc. in Tehachapi, Calif., and as an assistant day-care provider.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, a member of the Golden Seniors and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

While in Tehachapi, she was a past member of the ladies' auxiliaries of the VFW and Moose Lodge.

She enjoyed dancing.

Her husband, Samuel L. Brister, died in 1984.

She leaves two sons, Timothy F. Doyleof Tulsa, Okla., and Ronald R. Rolin of Pauls Valley, Okla.; a daughter, Sharon Snyder of Seville, Ohio; four brothers, John Doyle and David Doyle of Pittsfield, Richard Doyle of Bristol, Conn., and James Doyle of North Miami Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Ruth Jones, Katherine Bouchard and Mary Majors, all of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Gertrude Mildred Brister, who died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 23, at 1 at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor of St. Joseph's Church.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetry. Calling hours will be today, Oct. 22, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Mrs. Brister was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Doyle, and three sisters, Rita Squires, Lillian Miller and Margaret Doyle.
