Peter J. Daunis

Peter J. Daunis, 87, of 16 King St. died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Scitico, Conn., on Feb. 17, 1916, the son of Paul J. and Johanna Evanouskas Daunis, he was educated in schools there.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a munitions truck driver. He served in the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge and other battles throughout Europe.
Mr. Daunis was employed by GE Plastics as a group leader for 34 years, retiring in January 1980.
He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and a member of its Men's Club.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 448 and American Legion Post 68.
Mr. Daunis was accomplished at playing the Hawaiian guitar, and was a lifelong New York Yankees fan.
He and his wife, the former Nellie V. Samalonis, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary Sept. 27. They were married in St. Mark's Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Michael P. Daunis of Palmer and Paul J. Daunis of Glen Mills, Pa.; two daughters, Karen M. Daunis of Pittsfield and Barbara M. Wirtes of Lanesboro; a brother, Raymond Daunis of Somers, Conn.; a sister, Agnes Hannon of Derby, Conn., and five grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Peter J. Daunis, age 87, died Oct. 17, 2003. He leaves his loving grandchildren, Brian A. and Alexander J. Wirtes, and Emily, Elizabeth and Eleanor Daunis.
He was predeceased by four sisters, Helen Provencher, Anne Decker, Dora Drown and Bertha Daunis. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Monday, from 4 to 7 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:15 from the funeral home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 at St. Mark's Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire VNA or to the Friends of Renal Dialysis in care of the funeral home.
