Harry Zalutsky

Harry Zalutsky, 88, of 235 Walker St. died Friday evening at Kimball Farms.
Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 22, 1915, son of Isaac and Bertha Varanofsky Zalutsky, he was a 1933 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also attended the University of Alabama.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Normandy, northern France and the Rhineland, receiving the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal.
He founded and operated several coin-operated laundries and dry-cleaning establishments un-der the name of Easy-Wash Laundries. He was also the owner/operator of the former Franco Food Store prior to the laundry business.
Before entering the war, he had worked at GE for two years.
He was a member of Congregation Knesset Israel Synagogue.
He was also a member of the American Legion and the Jewish War Veterans.
He and his wife, the former Norma Rod, were married Jan. 7, 1948.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Paul Zalutsky of Cambridge, Dr. Robert Zalutsky of Rockville, Md., and Dr. Michael Zalutsky of Chapel Hill, N.C., and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Harry Zalutsky, age 88, died Oct. 10, 2003. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Peggy Britt Zalutsky, and his two grandchildren, Benjamin and Leana Zalutsky. He was predeceased by his five sisters, Sadie Kobritz, Gertrude Freadman, Ida Teitelbaum, Pearl Apkin and Rose Rudnick.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 at Knesset Israel Synagogue with Rabbi Lynn Lieberman officiating. Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery.
