John W. Larkin

John W. Larkin, 82, of 260 Pittsfield Road died Tuesday evening at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Pittsfield on March 2, 1921, son of William P. and Alice Barry Larkin, he was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also graduated from the former Berkshire Business College in 1942 and New York University in 1948.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he was seaman, third class and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, including on PT boats and the USS Omaha. He also attended the Navy small craft training center in Miami.
Mr. Larkin worked at the family business, Larkin's Men's Shop, in Pittsfield, and ran it for five years after his father's death until it closed in 1963.
He then was employed as a rate clerk and dispatcher for Old Colony Transportation in Lee until joining Kimball's Motor Dispatch in Great Barrington in 1974 as a rate clerk and supervisor. He retired in 1983.
He leaves a brother, Edward P. Larkin of Dalton.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- John W. Larkin, age 82, died Sept. 30, 2003. He is also survived by his nephews, Peter J., Barry E., James W. and Shaun Larkin, and two nieces, Mary Ellen Palmer and Alice Everhart. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or public services.
A private interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Agnes' Church in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
