Patricia Jean Ryan, 75, of Morgan Manor died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center.
She was a longtime teacher at Wahconah Regional High School in Dalton, retiring in the 1980s.
Ms. Ryan was a longtime member and past chairwoman of the Lenox Zoning Board of Appeals and active in town conservation efforts.
Born in Millers Falls on July 21, 1928, daughter of Matthew B. and Margaret Lovett Ryan, she was a 1946 graduate of the former Orange High School and a 1950 graduate of Fitchburg State Teachers College, where she received a bachelor's degree in education. She also took graduate courses at both Fitchburg and the University of Massachusetts.
A high school English and history teacher, Ms. Ryan previously taught at Mahar Regional High School in Orange. She also taught remedial and speed reading for summer school students at the former Cranwell School in Lenox. Following her retirement from teaching, Ms. Ryan worked full time at Eastover Resort in Lenox, retiring in the late 1990s.
She was a communicant of St. Ann's Church and enjoyed reading, playing golf and animals.
She leaves a sister, Elizabeth R. Mayne of Lenox. She was predeceased by an infant son.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Patricia Jean Ryan will be celebrated Monday at 11 at St. Ann's Church by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. She is also survived by two nephews, Kevin M.R. Mayne and Thomas P.R. Mayne, and four grandnieces, Avonlea, Helene, Erin and Alison. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish make donations in her memory to either the Lenox Library or the Berkshire Humane Society, both in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
