Francis Bernard Schnopp, 86, of 29 Ensign St. died Monday afternoon at home.
He was a longtime local businessman.
Born in Hinsdale on Aug. 23, 1917, son of Frank C. and Johanna Butler Schnopp, he attended schools in Dalton and Hinsdale.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1941 to 1945.
Mr. Schnopp owned and operated Brown Oil Co. from 1948 until retiring in 1989.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a member of the Benjamin F. Sullivan American Legion Post 155 in Dalton.
He enjoyed fishing, hiking and camping.
He and his wife, the former Mary T. Griffin, were married April 22, 1950, in St. Agnes' Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Mark F. Schnopp of the town of Washington, Paul J. Schnopp of Salt Lake City and Glenn P. Schnopp of Dalton; a daughter, Pamela M. Fillio of Dalton; a brother, David Schnopp of Taunton, and six grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Francis Bernard Schnopp, who died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, was predeceased by four brothers, Harry, Joseph, Richard and John. He leaves six grandchildren, Lindsay Schnopp, Briana Schnopp, Brendan Schnopp, Emily L. Schnopp, Matthew Fillio and John Fillio.
The funeral will be Friday, Sept. 26, at 9:15 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Agnes' Church by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor. Cremation will follow. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Conroy Children's Fund or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
