Irene Teresa Roche, 82, of Devonshire Estates, 329 Pittsfield Road, formerly of 11 Taconic Ave., died Sunday evening at home.
Born inAlberta, Canada, on June 29, 1921, daughter of Ernest and Eva Chabot Yon, she moved to Pittsfield as a young girl and was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Roche worked as a teachers' aide at Stockbridge Plain School during the late 1960s and early 1970s, and did volunteer work at the former Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Lenox, at the Little Gift Shop on North Street and at Berkshire Medical Center.
She was a communicant of St. Ann's Church and a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher and member of the Rosary-Altar Society.
She also enjoyed gardening, painting and traveling.
Her husband, William D. Roche, whom she married Nov. 11, 1943, died April 20, 1980.
She leaves three sons, W. David Roche, Thomas F. Roche and James J. Roche, all of Lenox; a brother, Joseph E. Yon of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren, and a stepgrandchild. Her daughter, Joanne Roche, died Sept. 9, 1966.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral of Mrs. Irene T. Roche will be Wednesday at 9:15 from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Ann's Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. Mrs. Roche also was predeceased by her stepgrandson, Jacob Ian Loucka, on July 18, 1995, and by her sister, Anita Parsons, in 1988.
She also leaves her grandchildren, Joanna Roche Stringer, Isabelle O'Brien, Emily Cotter, Caroline Pratt, and Kara, Michael, Brenda, Timothy and Tucker Roche; her stepgranddaughter, Gretchen Loucka; and her daughters-in-law, Ellen, Debbie and Leslie-John Roche. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in Mrs. Roche's memory to the Lenox Library in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
