Rhetta E. Spaniol Houghtaling, 73, of 68 Perrine Ave. died Friday at home.
Born in Wilmington, Del., on Aug. 12, 1930, daughter of Cliffton and Hazel Dean Pleasanton, she moved to Pittsfield in 1943 and attended local schools.
Mrs. Houghtaling retired from the laundry department at Berkshire Medical Center. Before that, she was a nurses' aide at Springside Nursing Home and worked for the late Dr. Ralph Froio.
She leaves four sons, Richard Spaniol of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Pittsfield Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth E. Spaniol, Arthur R. Houghtaling Jr. and David E. Houghtaling, all of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and her companion of 28 years, Phillip "Poncho" Delano, with whom she made her home.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private funeral for Mrs. Rhetta E. Houghtaling, who died in Pittsfield on Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, will be held at a later date.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
