Margaret A. "Peggy" Galliher

Margaret A. "Peggy" Galliher, 86, of 98 Curtis Ave. died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Dalton on Sept. 2, 1917, daughter of Bart J. Poopor Sr. and Anna W. Dowling Poopor, she was a 1935 graduate of the former Dalton High School.

A waitress for 40 years, Mrs. Galliher was employed by the former Stanley Club from 1966 to 1987 and by the Crane Inn from 1953 to 1965.

She was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a member of its Rosary Society.

She was also a member of the Dalton American Legion Auxiliary, a Red Sox fan and enjoyed knitting and traveling.

Her husband, Edward P. Galliher, whom she married April 14, 1941, in St. Agnes' Church, died Oct. 15, 1972.

She leaves three sons, James R. Galliher and Joseph M. Galliher, both of Dalton, and Patrick E. Galliher of Lanesboro; a daughter, Kathleen M. Burke of Dalton; a brother, Edmund M. Poopor of Dalton; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Margaret A. "Peggy" Galliher, who died Thursday, Sept. 18, will be held Monday, Sept. 22, at 9:15 from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Agnes' Church concelebrated by the Rev. Joseph Quinn, CSC, and the Rev. Mark Burke, SJ, administrator of St. Raphael's and St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown.

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Galliher may be made to the Dalton Fire and Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.

Mrs. Galliher also leaves her daughers-in-law, Carolina, Darlene and Anne Galliher; nine grandchildren, Shaun and Brian Burke, Kellie Baumgartner, Jayne van der Valk, James E. Galliher, Sean White and Kerrie Stanaway, and Krista M. and Erin E. Galliher, and two great-grandchildren, Jilian B. Peltier and Kaylee Baumgartner. She was predeceased by two brothers, Bart J. Poopor Jr., on Feb. 28, 1981, and James Poopor, in May 1945, and her son-in-law, Joseph J. Burke, on Dec. 29, 1998.
