Martin Cornelius Flynn

Martin Cornelius Flynn, 79, of 54 Mohawk St. died Tuesday at home.

Born in Pittsfield on July 26, 1924, son of Cornelius J. and Agnes Crotty Flynn, he attended local schools.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1943 to 1946 with the 130th Station Hospital as a medical aide in the Rhineland and Central Europe.

Mr. Flynn was employed as a braid finisher for A.H. Rice Silk Mill for 30 years, retiring in 1990. Prior to that, he had been a truck driver for R.M. O’Connell and a taxi cab driver for the former Checker Cab Co.

He was a communicant of St. Charles’ Church.

He enjoyed country music and was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan.

He and his wife, the former Jean L. Provencher, were married April 6, 1956.

Besides his wife, he leaves two stepsons, Francis J. Santoro of Aloha, Ore., and Gary P. Santoro of Rutland, Vt., both of whom he raised as his own; four sons, Martin P. Flynn, Michael A. Flynn and Daniel J. Flynn, all of Pittsfield, and Timothy J. Flynn of Dalton; a daughter, Susan M. Imler of Pittsfield; three sisters, Agnes Street, Isabel Provencher and Mary Mazzeo, all of Pittsfield, 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Martin Cornelius Flynn, who died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, Henry and Cornelius Flynn, and three sisters, Helen Kent, Ann Harford and Florence Hopper. The funeral will be Friday, Sept. 12, at 9:15 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Charles’ Church by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Thursday, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the St. Charles’ Memorial Fund, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. He loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
