Sophie A. Woitkowski

Sophie A. Woitkowski, 90, of 11 Elmvale Place died Saturday at home.

Born in Housatonic on Aug. 3, 1913, daughter of Joseph and Virginia Zdun Lis, she attended schools in Great Barrington.

Mrs. Woitkowski was employed as a spinner at the former Elmvale-Worsted Mill and at the A.H. Rice Silk Mill for a total of 45 years.

She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of its Rosary Society and Mothers’ Guild.

Her husband, Theodore Woitkowski, died April 16, 1995.

She leaves a daughter, Jean White of Pittsfield; two sons, Raymond C. Woitkowski of Pittsfield and Robert T. Woitkowski of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Sadie Smith of Lee; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Sophie will be lovingly missed by her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by five brothers, Stanley, Joseph, Chet, Francis and William.

The funeral for Sophie A. Woitkowski, 90, who died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, will be Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Charles’ Church, concelebrated by the Rev. Peter Gregory, pastor, and the Rev. Michael Twardzik, pastor of St. Francis’ Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to St. Charles’ Church, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St.
