George O. Jones

August 23, 2003

George O. Jones, 47, of 110 Linden St. died Saturday afternoon at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester after a brief illness.

Born in Hampton, Va., on March 20, 1956, son of George T. and Otessa R. Street Jones, he moved to Pittsfield in 1965 and was a 1974 graduate of Taconic High School.

Mr. Jones was a kitchen assistant at Friendly’s restaurant on West Housatonic Street. Before that, he was a cook at Kentucky Fried Chicken for seven years and had worked in the kitchen of the former Willowood Nursing Home for more than three years.

He enjoyed fishing.

He leaves two sons, George O. Jones Jr. of Texas and Marcus Jones of Pittsfield; three brothers, Michael Jones, Kenneth Jones and Nicholas Jones, all of Pittsfield; two sisters, Apenda Walker and Arnetta Sandifer, both of Pittsfield, and his companion of 20 years, Annie Gadson.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- George O. Jones, 47, died Aug. 23, 2003. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 at Second Congregational Church, 50 Onota St., by the Rev. Carol Towley, pastor.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations may be made to the Christian Center in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
