Marjorie A. Carpenter

Marjorie A. Carpenter, 89, died Thursday at Berkshire Retirement Home, where she had resided since July.

She had previously resided at Epoch Assisted Living at Melbourne.

Born in Boston on July 5, 1914, daughter of Lloyd and Adeline Sherman Carpenter, she was a 1932 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a graduate of the former Berkshire Business College, where she majored in shorthand, typing and business.

Miss Carpenter was employed for more than 40 years at GE in the finance departments of both the ordnance and power transformer divisions, retiring in 1976.

She was an active member of United Methodist Church of Lenox since 1929. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was superintendent of the primary department with more than 40 children between the ages of 4 and 8, worked with the youth of the church and was a member of the Women’s Society.

She also was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners’ clubs, the Women’s Club of Pittsfield, the Ralph Froio Senior Center and the American Associaton of Retired Persons.

She leaves several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Marjorie A. Carpenter, who died Aug. 21, 2003, will be conducted Tuesday at 3 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., by the Rev. Eric Depee, pastor of United Methodist Church of Lenox.

Burial will follow in Cemetery of the Evergreens in Lebanon Springs, N.Y. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 2 to 3.
