Althea D. Patrick

Althea D. Patrick, 57, of 9774 High Water Court, Burke, Va., died Sunday at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., after a long illness.

She moved to Burke in October 1987.

Born in Hamilton, Bermuda, on Jan. 1, 1946, daughter of Samuel and Iris Bowery Nolan, she attended Pittsfield High School. After receiving her GED, she graduated from Berkshire Community College with an associate degree in liberal arts and from the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, with a bachelor’s degree in education.

She earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Massachusetts.

She was a personnel coordinator for the Department of the Navy from 1987 until retiring in March 1997.

She had been employed as a teacher in the Follow Through Program at West Side Community School from 1971 to 1981 and as a mental health coordinator for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health from 1981 to 1987.

She and her husband, Franklin M. Patrick, were married Feb. 27, 1965.

Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Elaina M. Grant of Burke and Erica R. Shrader of Lake Ridge, Va.; four brothers, Alan Nolan of Syracuse, N.Y., Lloyd Nolan of Pittsfield, Earl Persip of Gardner and Gregory Nolan of London; five sisters, Irma Golden of Amherst, Tracyee Alexander of Pittsfield, Michelle Nolan of London, and Perry Trott and Meladene Lightbourne, both of Bermuda, and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Althea Patrick will be conducted Friday at 1 at Second Congregational Church in Pittsfield by the Rev. Carol Towley, pastor. Cremation will follow.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Among survivors are her grandchildren, Alexis Grant, and Marcus, Dante and Nya Shrader, as well as other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Her main love in life was her family and taking care of her grandchildren.
