Paul W. Houle

Paul W. Houle, 74, of 120 Harryel St. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Gardner on July 1, 1929, son of Oscar E. and Blanche A. Benoit Houle, he graduated in 1947 from Gardner High School and in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Clark University.
He also attended a GE managment program.
An Air Force veteran, he served from 1952 to 1956 as a first lieutenant and a pilot. He was based in Duluth, Minn., flying the F-86 Sabre.
Mr. Houle was employed in the large transformer department for 39 years, retiring in 1995.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners’ clubs and the Elfun Society.
He played the saxophone for the Mossman Collegians and the Haywood Wakefield Band in Gardner.
He and his wife, the former Anita M. Backholm, were married Feb. 23, 1957, in Sacred Heart Church in Gardner.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, David P. Houle of Charlotte, N.C., Steven W. Houle of Pittsfield and Glenn A. Houle of Dalton; two daughters, Patricia L. Cometti of Charlotte and Elizabeth A. Williams of Pittsfield; two sisters, Cosette R. Breau and Lucille B. Vallee, both of Gardner, and 10 grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Paul W. Houle, 74, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, in Pittsfield. Beloved grandfather to Jeffrey, Michael and Melissa Houle, Adam and Kara Cometti, Bethany, Jessica and Sarah Houle, and Zachary and Rebecca Williams. He also leaves his sons-in-law, Rick Williams and Anthony Cometti; daughters-in-law, Kellie Houle and Carol Houle; a brother-in-law, George Vallee; and an aunt, Irma Benoit.
The funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 16, at 9 at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. Joseph Devlin, SJ. Calling hours will be Friday, Aug. 15, from 3 to 7 at the funeral home. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Pittsfield Little League in care of the funeral home.
