Vivian L. Newton, 75, of 76 Scammell Ave. died Tuesday at UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 16, 1927, daughter of Irving and Stella Champlin Sheldon, she was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She was a secretary and bookkeeper for her husband’s business, E.W. Newton Excavating Co.
Prior to her marriage, she worked for A.H. Rice Co.
Her husband, Ellis Newton, whom she married Aug. 16, 1947, in Lanesboro, died May 31, 1996.
She leaves a son, Eric Newton of Lanesboro; two daughters, Gail Clement and Brenda Newton, both of Pittsfield; a brother, James Sheldon of Windsor, and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Vivian L. Newton, 75, died in Worcester on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Beloved grandmother to Kristina Newton-Ulrich, Vanessa Newton-Arseneau and Trevor and Justin Clement. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 9, at 11 at the DWYER FUNERAL HOME.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Marjorie Sime and Beverly Newton. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
