George W. Smith Sr., 84, of 257 Onota St. died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Pittsfield on April 19, 1919, son of George I. and Minnie Vogel Smith, he graduated in 1937 from Pittsfield High School and in 1943 from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Smith was employed as a sales representative for Eli Lilly and Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1979.
He then worked as a pharmacist at several local pharmacies.
He and his wife, the former Marie Rogerson, were married Oct. 29, 1955.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, George W. Smith Jr. of Pittsfield; a daughter, Nancy M. Smith of Pittsfield, and a grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for George W. Smith Sr. will be private and at the convenience of the family. Following cremation, burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Among survivors are his grandson, Ryan Smith of Pittsfield, and his niece, Susan Noone of Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., is in charge of arrangements.
