Vesta R. Melle

Vesta R. Melle, 82, of 977 Holmes Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 28, 1921, daughter of Harold J. and Ruth Perry Martin, she was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Melle was a self-employed seamstress for more than 60 years, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and of its Anna Fleet chapter. She also served on many of its committees and was the leader of Girl Scout Troop 44 at the church.
She was active in Heart of the Berkshires Grange 418 and was a member of both the state and national Grange.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and reading.
Her husband, Leo F. Melle, whom she married Nov. 28, 1940, died Sept. 22, 2001.
She leaves a daughter, Joyce M. MacWhinnie of Pittsfield; a son, Gene W. Melle of Averill Park, N.Y.; a brother, Windsor Martin of Dalton, six granddaughters and four great-grandsons.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mrs. Vesta R. Melle will be conducted Saturday at 11 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield by the Rev. Dr. Robert Rennie, pastor of First Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
