Joseph Thomas Liverseidge Jr., 85, of 176 Columbus Ave. died Tuesday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 24, 1917, son of Joseph T. Liverseidge Sr. and Johanna Kiley Liverseidge, he was a 1936 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a sergeant with the 104th Infantry Regiment in Europe and was wounded in action.
He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
Mr. Liverseidge was employed in the relations and utilities department of GE, retiring as a group leader in 1979 after 33 years of service.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners’ clubs and the Senior Center. He was a life member of the VFW and twice served as commander of Post 448 and as aide-de-camp to the national commander.
He was a past member of Disabled American Veterans and the Yankee Division (26th Infantry Division) Veterans Association.
He leaves his wife, the former Eleanor M. Blaney; two sons, Joseph T. Liverseidge III of Granville and Robert M. Liverseidge of Pittsfield, four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Joseph Thomas Liverseidge Jr., who died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, will be held Saturday, June 28, at 8:15 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Joseph’s Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
