Olive Marion Clark

Olive Marion Clark, 80, of Westminster Road died Saturday afternoon at home.
Born in New York City on April 25, 1923, daughter of Earle B. and Mildred Ziegler Roberts, she was a 1939 graduate of George Washington High School.
She studied under George Balanchine at the School of American Ballet and sang in choirs, including the Collegiate Chorale with Robert Shaw and Arturo Toscanini.
She received a bachelor of arts degree from Barnard College and master of arts and doctor of education degrees from Teachers College at Columbia University.
She served as a teacher and administrator in the New York City Public School System for 33 years and as an assistant professor at the Fordham University Graduate School of Education at Lincoln Center. After her retirement from both in 1985, she moved to the Berkshires.
Mrs. Clark was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Lenox.
Besides music and art, her lifelong passion was the care and protection of animals.
She and her husband, Robert I. Clark Sr., were married Aug. 21, 1999.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Robert Christopher Francks of New York City.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The beautiful spirit of Olive M. Clark will continue to inspire and guide the many people whose lives she touched with such grace and love. She is also survived by her son’s partner, Laurence Gleason of New York City, and her cousin, Dorothy Somers of Boca Raton, Fla., and by her animals, Caitlin, Buster, Abigail, Alicia and Charley.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be concelebrated Wednesday at 11 at St. Ann’s Church by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus and the Rev. Shaun O’Connor, MIC. Committal will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Animal DREAMS, Animal Care and Rescue, P.O. Box 705, South Egremont, MA 01258, or HospiceCare in the Berkshires, 369 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox is in charge of arrangements.
