Jane Sokop

Jane Sokop, 88, of Oak Hill Road died yesterday morning at home.
Born in Troy, N.Y., on Aug. 28, 1914, daughter of John and Margaret Gilligan Maloney, she was a graduate Catholic Central High School and the Troy Business School.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Sokop was secretary for the dean of administration at Berkshire Community College from 1966 to 1970.
Before her marriage in 1937, she had been employed at the Watervliet (N.Y.) Arsenal.
Mrs. Sokop was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church and did volunteer work there.
She enjoyed knitting and crafts.
She and her husband, Henry G. Sokop, would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on June 26.
Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Lawrence H. Sokop of Holyoke, Gerard J. Sokop of Hatfield and Thomas G. Sokop of Pittsfield; two daughters, Patricia J. Babineau of Meriden, Conn., and Margaret M. Winslow of Dalton; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Another son, Peter J. Sokop, died Feb. 3, 1999.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Jane Maloney Sokop, who died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, leaves her daughters-in-law, Mary (Mrs. Lawrence) Sokop, Patricia (Mrs. Gerard) Sokop and Paula (Mrs. Thomas) Sokop; her sons-in-law, Richard Babineau and Lyndal Winslow; her grandchildren, Cynthia Greene, Laura Walsh, Stephen Sokop, Jennifer Toole, Julie Rozell, Cathleen Hargreaves, Mark Babineau, Thomas Babineau, Michael Babineau, Christine Ganon, Amy Babineau, Matthew Sokop, Judy Sokop, Jeremy Sokop, Daniel Fulton and Patrick Fulton; and her great-grandchildren, Haley Babineau, Jack Henry Babineau, Emily Jane Ganon, Ryan Walsh, Matthew Walsh, Rhiannon Toole, Grace Sokop and Conor Sokop.
The funeral will be Saturday, June 21, at 8:15 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, Dalton, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Agnes’ Church by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to St. Francis Xavier Church in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton.
