Ruth R. Malins, 88, of 52 Spadina Parkway died Tuesday afternoon at home.
Born in Norwalk, Conn., on Jan. 27, 1915, daughter of Charles and Clara Johnson Reddy, she was a graduate of schools there.She also graduated from Norwalk Business School.
She moved to Pittsfield in 1960 from West Hartford, Conn.
Prior to her marriage, she was a business secretary in New York City.
An active member of South Congregational Church, Mrs. Malins had served as secretary, treasurer and vice president of the May H. Mattoon Class, a women’s group at the church.
She also was an active member of the YMCA Women’s Auxiliary and volunteered in Pittsfield, as well as West Hartford, helping with fund-raising campaigns.
She enjoyed cooking, painting, reading, flowers and gardening. In her younger years, she enjoyed tennis and horseback riding.
She leaves her husband, Walter D. Malins, whom she married May 31, 1937, in Stamford, Conn; a son, Douglas W. Malins of Pittsfield; a daughter, Cindy M. Tirrell of Pittsfield, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Ruth R. Malins, who died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, leaves her two grandchildren, Ryan and Erin Pynes, and her three great-grandchildren, Mollie Pynes, Megan Pynes and Brendan Pynes.
The funeral will be conducted Friday, June 20, at 7 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Joel Huntington, pastor of South Congregational Church. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Camp Marrowbone Scholarship Fund of the Sioux YMCA, P.O. Box 218, Dupree, SD 57623.
