George J. Quadrozzi

George J. Quadrozzi, 85, of 50 Highview Drive died yesterday at home.

Born in Pittsfield on March 17, 1918, son of Joseph and Theresa R. Pullano Quadrozzi, he was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 1850th Service Command Unit.

Mr. Quadrozzi was employed by GE in the former power transformer department as a woodworker, retiring in 1981.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners’ clubs and the Berkshire Hillsmen men’s chorus.

He enjoyed gardening, dancing, fishing, swimming and bowling and was a fan of the New York Yankees.

He and his wife, the former Ruth C. Boyer, were married April 27, 1940, in Notre Dame Church.

He leaves two sons, George B. Quadrozzi of Pittsfield and Douglas J. Quadrozzi of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter, Jane Theroux of Pittsfield; a brother, Samuel J. Quadrozzi of Pittsfield; two sisters, Laura V. Monterosso of Pittsfield and Nancy L. Mallory of Fort Myers, Fla., two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- George J. Quadrozzi, 85, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003. The funeral will be Friday, June 20, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor.

Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, June 19, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. Beloved husband of Ruth C. Boyer Quadrozzi. Devoted father of George B. and Douglas J. Quadrozzi. Loving grandfather of Rand J. and Gregg G. Quadrozzi. Loving great-grandfather of Anthony and Vincent Quadrozzi. Dear Brother of Samuel J. Quadrozzi, Laura V. Monterosso, Nancy L. Mallory. He was predeceased by a brother, William J. Quadrozzi, who died in the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II.
