Thomas D. Wallace

Thomas D. Wallace, 73, of 81 Palomino Drive died Sunday at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester.

Born in North Bergen, N.J., on Sept. 29, 1929, son of Thomas D. and Mary Elizabeth Hyatt Wallace, he was a graduate of North Bergen High School. He also graduated from Seton Hall College in New Jersey with a bachelor of science degree in finance management.

He enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and served with Company M, 2nd Infantry Division, as a sergeant.

Mr. Wallace was employed by GE in the financial division for 35 years, working at the New York City headquarters, as well as the offices in Bridgeport and Fairfield, Conn., and San Jose, Calif., before being transferred to Pittsfield in 1978.

He retired from GE in 1991. Following his retirement, he was an agent for Century 21 in commercial investment and sales.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and of Chamber of Commerce and the Country Club of Pittsfield, where he played golf. A longtime member of the Civitan Club, he had served as president and was a current member of the board and chaired the club’s annual fruit-cake drive and golf tournament.

He was an instructor in the Civil Air Patrol Senior, and a member of the Town Players, the Elfun Society and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners’ clubs, and was active in the Berkshire County Board of Realtors. While in Bridgeport, he was president of the Polka Dot Play House.

He was a New York Yankees fan.

He leaves his wife, the former Mary Hamilton, whom he married Nov. 14, 1965; a son, Thomas Drew Wallace of Pittsfield; a daughter, Kathleen H. Tisdale of Pittsfield; a brother, Wendell Wallace of Parsippany, N.J., and a granddaughter.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Thomas D. Wallace will be conducted Thursday at 11 at First Baptist Church, South Street, by the Rev. Dr. Robert D. Rennie, pastor.

Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., will be Wednesday from 5 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Civitan Club of Pittsfield Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home. Among survivors are Mr. Wallace’s son-in-law, David A. Tisdale, and granddaughter, Isabella Tisdale, both of Pittsfield.
