Anthony J. Gigliotti Sr., 81, of 103 Wealthy Ave. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 27, 1921, son of Domenico and Caterina Melfi Gigliotti, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Rhineland and Central Europe and received several medals and ribbons.
Mr. Gigliotti was employed by GE for 42 years, retiring from the ordnance systems in 1982.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners’ clubs, Sons of Italy Itam Lodge 564, VFW Post 448, American Legion Post 68, and the Father William Contino Italian-American War Veterans Post 75.
He enjoyed traveling, gardening, music, fishing, dancing, off-track betting in New Lebanon, N.Y., and sports.
His first wife, the former Gloria O’Brien, died Nov. 30, 1973.
He leaves his wife, the former Helen Jakacky Kogut, whom he married July 16, 1978.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Russell J. Gigliotti of Dalton; two stepdaughters, Rose Davis-MacDonald and Helen T. McRory, both of Pittsfield; a stepson, Casimer “Kaz†Kogut of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a sister, Rose Condron of Pittsfield; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Anthony J. Gigliotti Jr., and a daughter, Mary Gigliotti, at birth.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Anthony J. Gigliotti Sr., 81, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 13, at 11 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday from 8:30 to 10:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Carmel Church in care of the funeral home. Beloved husband of Helen Jakacky Kogut Gigliotti. Devoted father of Russell J. Gigliotti and his wife, Nancy.
Survived by two stepdaughters, Rose Davis-MacDonald and her husband, Wayne “Mac,†and Helen T. McRory and her husband, James Sr.; a stepson, Casimer “Kaz†Kogut and his wife, Judith. Cherished grandfather of Jeffrey and Tracey Gigliotti, Kellie and Jason Davis, James S. McRory Jr., Kimberly and Scott Kogut. Dear brother of Rose Condron. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Gigliotti at birth, and a son, Anthony J. Gigliotti Jr., three sisters, Mary Fera, Carmen LeSage and Theresa G. Disco, and two brothers, Frank Gigliotti and Joseph F. “Jiggers†Gigliotti.
