Ruth Deborah Donelson, 92, of Melbourne Place died Monday at home.
Born in Malden on June 15, 1910, daughter of Robert S. and Winifred E. MacKay Lincoln, she was a 1928 graduate of Malden High School. She attended Sea Pines School for Girls in Brewster and was a 1931 graduate of the former Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston.
She had resided in Colrain and Arizona, and had retired to Gualala, Calif., before moving to Melbourne Place in 1998.
She and her husband, Reuben H. Donelson, operated a farm in Colrain for 30 years, until selling it 1965 and moving to Scottsdale, Ariz., where she worked as a secretary at Arizona State University.
Mrs. Donelson also was employed by the New England Life Insurance Co. until her marriage.
She enjoyed traveling by car across the United States, visiting every state and many parks.
She was a talented quilter and enjoyed history and researching her family, producing and publishing the book “Our Family History 1620-1976.â€
She leaves her husband, whom she married June 1, 1935, in Malden; two sons, Robert L. Donelson of Morrison, Colo., and Stephen H. Donelson of Golden, Colo.; two daughters, Martha D. Katz of Great Barrington and Deborah R. Depree of Mount Shasta, Calif., seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Another son, Edward Donelson, died in infancy in 1944.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ruth D. Lincoln Donelson, who died June 9, 2003, will be Saturday, June 14, at 2 at SMITH-KELLEHER FUNERAL HOME in Shelburne Falls. Burial will be in North River Cemetery, Colrain.
There will be no calling hours. It is suggested donations be made to either the Colrain Griswold Library, Main Road, Colrain, MA, or to the Colrain Historical Society in care of Rebecca Bounds, 91 East Catamount Road, Colrain, MA 01340.
