Homer H. Sherman, 88, of Country Roads Mobile Home Park died Sunday at Craneville Place of Dalton.
Born in Savoy on May 26, 1914, son of Leslie H. and Eva Turner Sherman, he was a graduate of local schools.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He was employed by GE in the power transformer division as a PT punch operator, retiring in 1976 after 32 years of service.
Following his retirement, he was the sexton and a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church.
A Dalton resident for 30 years, he moved to Hinsdale in 1988.
He was a member of the Dalton American Legion and was a Grange member.
His wife, the former Myrtle E. King, whom he married Jan. 1, 1948, died Feb. 16, 1990. They were foster parents for many years, and from 1949 to 1957 cared for 10 foster children.
He leaves a daughter, Marjorie Murray of Dalton; a son, Richard H. Sherman of Charleston, S.C.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Homer H. Sherman will be Friday, May 23, at 11 at the BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Philip Kim, pastor of the Dalton United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Street Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
Among survivors are three grandchildren, Thomas Murray, Jennifer Hallock and Rick Sherman, all of Dalton; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Hallock and Kyle Hallock, of Dalton; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Dalton Ambulance Fund in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, which is in charge of arrangements.
