Minnie M. James, 101, died Saturday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided for three years.
She lived on Jaynes Street in Lenox for more than 64 years.
Born in Ashley Falls on June 16, 1901, daughter of Edward and Minnie Johnson Williams, she attended local schools.
Mrs. James was employed for several years during the 1950s as a nanny for the Dr. Thomas Hayden family in Pittsfield.
She and her husband, Lenox native Simon M. James, were married Jan. 28, 1917, in Paterson, N.J.
Following his death on Dec. 6, 1980, Mrs. James lived for several years at Columbia Arms in Pittsfield and for 1 1/2 years with her son and daughter-in-law, Herbert H. and Jennie James of Pittsfield.
She was a member of the Church on the Hill in Lenox and enjoyed flower gardening, baking and sewing.
Besides her son, she leaves three daughters, Almeda Wilkinson of Orange, N.J., Minnie Lee of Norwalk, Conn., and Grace Hubbard of Pittsfield; 20 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. Another son, Simon F. James, died in 2001, and a daughter, Edna M. Gardner, died in 1992.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mrs. Minnie M. James will be conducted Wednesday at 2 at ROCHE FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Charles F. Young. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 1 until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in Mrs. James’ memory to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
