Hazel S. Roberts

Hazel S. Roberts, 90, of Kimball Farms Retirement Community died yesterday at its nursing care center.

Born in Waterbury, Conn., Oct. 4, 1912, daughter of Claus G. and Ida Roos Swanson, she graduated from Woodbury (Conn.) High School. In 1933, she graduated from Boston University’s College of Practical Arts and Letters.

She resided in Waban for many years before moving to Kimball Farms in 1989 and becoming one of its first residents.

Mrs. Roberts was employed by Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey in New York City, then as a secretary with the law firm of Hale & Dorr in Boston.

She also was the secretary for many years for Union Church in Waban, of which she was also a member.

While in Lenox, she was a member of First Church of Christ in Pittsfield, Congregational. She also was a member of Pi Kappa Epsilon sorority and served on the board of corporators of the Rivers School in Weston, which made her an honorary life member of the board.

She was active in Boston University alumni affairs for more than 65 years.

Her husband, Raymond B. Roberts, whom she married Oct. 5, 1938, died in 1967.

She leaves two sons, Raymond L. Roberts of Waban and William B. Roberts of Richmond, and five grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service celebrating the life of Hazel S. Roberts will be conducted at First Church of Christ in Pittsfield, Congregational, at 2 on Tuesday, May 20, by the Rev. Boyd M. Johnson, pastor of First Church of Christ, Woodbridge, Conn. There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in Shirley Hill Cemetery in Goffstown, N.H. Among survivors are five grandchildren, Raymond Bradley Roberts II of Waban, Johathan D. Roberts of Nashua, N.H., Kristina A. Roberts of Brighton, Marta E. Roberts of Providence, R.I., and William Victor Parsons Roberts of Waban, a nephew and two nieces. A brother, William H. Swanson, and a sister, Irene S. Turner, predeceased her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of Christ in Pittsfield, Congregational, 27 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, is in charge of arrangements.
