James P. Renzi

James P. Renzi, 87, of 650 Crane Ave. died Thursday at his home as a result of a lawn tractor mower accident.

Born in Pittsfield June 7, 1915, son of Antonio and Rose Pannone Renzi, he attended Pittsfield schools.

He was a World War II veteran of the Army, serving in the Pacific theater, where he received several commendations.

Shortly after his honorable discharge, he and his brother, Alexander Renzi, formed Renzi Bros. Painters Co., which was in business for many years. He retired in 1981.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a life member of Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades.

He enjoyed shuffleboard, bocce and working on his property.

His wife, the former Leola M. Walker, whom he married Sept. 18, 1941, died Feb. 9, 1990.

He leaves two sons, John E. Renzi of Lanesboro and Thomas P. Renzi of Spring Hill, Fla.; one brother, Ralph R. Renzi of Williamstown; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his companion, Theresa Belanger of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Renzi.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- James P. Renzi, 87, died Thursday, May 15, 2003. Funeral services will take place Monday, May 19, at 9 from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Mount Carmel Church, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, May 18, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lanesboro Elementary School in care of the funeral home. Beloved father of John E. Renzi and Thomas P. Renzi. Dear brother of Ralph R. Renzi. He is also survived by his companion, Theresa Belanger of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by three brothers, Domenico “Nick” Renzi, Alexander Renzi and Joseph D. Renzi; and five sisters, Philomena Conti, Mary Faussone, Jeanette Nash Yannone, Theresa Kielman and Marion Smith. He had great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
