Arthur J. Pero Jr

Arthur J. Pero Jr., 81, of 190 Lenox Ave., died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Adams on Nov. 11, 1921, son of Arthur J. Pero Sr. and Anna Thompson Pero, he was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific theater as a corporal.

He worked for the GE power transformer department for 37 years, retiring in 1981 as a foreman.

A communicant of St. Charles’ Church.

He was also a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners Club and a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants.

He leaves his wife, the former Cecilia M. Magdalenski, whom he married Sept. 23, 1944, in Holy Family Church; five sons, Arthur J. Pero III of Westfield, James M. Pero of Dalton, Daniel J. Pero of North Adams, John M. Pero of Windsor and Charles J. Pero of Richmond; a brother, J. Donald Pero of Pittsfield, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Arthur J. Pero Jr., 81, died in Pittsfield on Thursday, May 8. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 10, at 9 from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Charles’ Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Saturday from 8 to 9 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Charles’ Church or The Jimmy Fund, in care of the funeral home.
