Eleanor Marie Appleton

Eleanor Marie Appleton, 68, of 38 Essex St., died Wednesday morning at her home.

Born in Pittsfield Oct. 6, 1934, daughter of Amedee and Rose Garneau Cornellier, she attended the former Notre Dame Elementary School and St. Joseph’s Central High School.

Although she was primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Appleton at one time was employed by Greylock Plastics and had worked as a private-duty caregiver for the elderly.

She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and active in church affairs.

She enjoyed gardening and bingo.

Her husband, Ralph E. Appleton, whom she married Oct. 4, 1952, died Nov. 14, 1993. He was a firefighter for the city of Pittsfield.

She leaves three sons, Ralph E. “Butch” Appleton of Dalton and David J. Appleton and Mark A. Appleton, both of Pittsfield; three daughters, Sandra L. Furlano of Pittsfield, with whom she resided, Donna M. Rogers of Port Orange, Fla., and Wendy A. Appleton, also of Pittsfield; a sister, Roseline E. “Cookie” Benham of Pittsfield, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Eleanor Marie Appleton, who died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, will be held Saturday, May 10, at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Notre Dame Church, celebrated by the Rev. Earl A. Hebert, pastor. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Friday, from 4 to 7, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Appleton may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and family. Mrs. Appleton also leaves her eight adored grandchildren, Nicole Furlano, Trisha Rogers Shawyryn, Chad Appleton, Kyle Appleton, Shane Appleton, Joshua Bassett, Ashley Lynn Bassett and Shannon Bassett; her two cherished great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Purry and Darrin Appleton and her longtime family friend, Roger D. Davenport. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kaylee Rose Bassett, who died Feb. 10, 1992.
