Kathryn M. Storie

Kathryn M. Storie, 93, formerly of 64 Winship Ave. and Wahconah Heights, died Tuesday evening at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where she had resided since 1996.
Born in Pittsfield on June 7, 1909, daughter of Ezra H. and Kathryn Murphy Ringie, she was a 1927 graduate of Pittsfield High School and received her licensed practical nursing certificate from the former St. Luke’s School of Nursing.
Mrs. Storie was a private-duty nurse for many years.
She also was employed by Hillcrest Hospital as an LPN until her retirement in 1980.
She was a communicant of St. Charles’ Church.
She played the banjo in an all-girls’ band and also performed in many minstrels. For many years, she maintained a large vegetable and flower garden at her home on Winship Avenue.
She also enjoyed sewing.
She and her husband, William R. Storie, were married in 1930. He died July 5, 1968. He was a well-known shortstop for the Nation-Wide Grocers semipro baseball team.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Joan K. Petruzella of Pittsfield; three sons, William E. Storie of Auburn, John F. Storie of Pittsfield and David J. Storie of Lanesboro; 15 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. Another son, Robert W. Storie, died in 1955.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mrs. Kathryn Ringie Storie, 93, died in Pittsfield on Tuesday, May 6, 2003. The funeral will be Friday, May 9, at 10:30 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Charles’ Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow morning from 8:30 to 10:30. She was predeceased by a grandson, David Petruzella, in 1999; a granddaughter, Nadine Storie, in 1986; three brothers, Garry, Richard and Donald Ringie, and a sister, Helen Blair. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Pittsfield Boys’ and Girls’ Club in care of the funeral home.
