June E. Handy, 73, formerly of 379 East St., Providence Court, died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons Nursing Home, where she had resided since January.
Born in Pittsfield on June 8, 1929, daughter of Thomas and Helen Killela, she attended local schools.
Mrs. Handy was a homemaker.
During the late 1950s, she had worked as a housekeeper and waitress in Ohio.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and enjoyed playing bingo at Itam Lodge, Mount Carmel and St. Mark’s.
She also enjoyed crocheting, dancing and singing country music.
Her husband, Arnold E. Handy, whom she married Dec. 1, 1950, in Great Barrington, died Aug. 16, 1990.
She leaves two sons, Thomas A. Handy of South Carolina and Mark E. Handy of Pittsfield; three daughters, June E. Coty and Linda L. Slonski, both of Pittsfield, and Donna L. Shaw of Lenox; 17 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mrs. June E. Handy, 73, of Pittsfield, who died May 4, 2003, will be Wednesday at 8:45 from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph’s Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hillcrest Commons Nursing Home Activities Fund in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
