Joseph E. Perrone

Joseph E. Perrone, 94, of Melbourne Place, died yesterday at Springside of Pittsfield.

Born in Mormano, Italy, on Dec. 7, 1908, son of Rafael and Maria Sangiovanni Perrone, he came with his family to Pittsfield in 1911 and graduated from Pittsfield High School and from the former Berkshire Business College.

He served in the National Guard for several years and was based in Pittsfield.

Mr. Perrone was employed as a cost accountant at GE for 38 years, retiring in 1968.

Following his retirement, he was employed by stock brokers Shearson, Hamill and Co. for five years and was a real estate broker with Ken’s Realty for 10 years.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners’ clubs, and was president of the Pensioners for two years.

He also was a member of the city’s auxiliary police force for three years.

In his younger years, he enjoyed skiing, boating, golf and taking walks, and was an outdoorsman and a member of area bowling leagues.

He leaves his wife, the former Virginia Pia, whom he married Aug. 25, 1934.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Richard A. Perrone and Dennis J. Perrone, both of Pittsfield; a brother, John Perrone of Englewood, Fla.; a sister, Laura Tagliente of Sumner, Wash., a granddaughter and five great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Joseph E. Perrone will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 at Mount Carmel Church, Fenn Street, by the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Monday, from 4 to 6 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield. Among survivors are a granddaughter, Kim Visconti of North Reading, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Perrone was predeceased by two brothers, Dominic Perrone and Albert Perrone; a sister, Mrs. Lena Eramo; and a grandson, Scott Perrone, who died in 1997.
