Steve “Ted†Louzin, 85, of 176 Columbus Ave., Berkshiretown Apartments, died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Cambridge on Dec. 3, 1917, son of Barnie and Rose Stopsky Lozensky, he attended schools there and graduated in 1936 from Ringe Technical High School. He moved to Pittsfield in 1939 after being transferred by the Schulty Cigar Co.
He last worked for 12 years for the Pittsfield school system as a custodian, retiring in 1982. Before then, he and his brother-in-law, Charles Fleischman, had owned South Street News from 1952 until 1970.
He and his brother-in-law were partners in the Park Square Luncheonette from the late 1940s until 1952. Prior to that, he worked for several years at GE.
He was a member of Knesset Israel Synagogue, the Pittsfield Crescent Lodge of Masons and the Scottish Rite of Freemasons.
He worked for many years at Tanglewood at the Lion’s Gate and was also an usher.
He and his wife, the former Lena Shusterman, were married June 3, 1941.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Alan Louzin of West Hempstead, N.Y.; a daughter, Brenna A. Louzin-Otterman of Seattle; a sister, Terry Fleisher of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Steve “Ted†Louzin, 85, died May 2, 2003. The funeral will be on Sunday at 10 at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with Rabbi Dennis Ross, spiritual leader of Temple Anshe Amunim, officiating.
Burial will follow in Ahavath Sholem Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Knesset Israel Synagogue or to the American Arthritis Association in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Shivah will be observed at the family home, 176 Columbus Ave., Berkshiretown Apartments, #410A, from 3 to 6:30, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
