Thomas H. Sherman, 81, of 14C Highview Drive died Saturday evening at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox.
Born in New York City on Aug. 13, 1921, son of Thomas D.H. and Bessie Perrira Sherman, he moved to the Berkshires as a child and was a 1939 graduate of Drury High School in North Adams.
An Army veteran of World War II, he received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Italy while serving with the 338th Infantry Regiment, 85th Division.
A licensed plumber, he was employed by Pittsfield Pipers, retiring in 1987.
He was a 50-year member of the Plumbers Union.
Mr. Sherman was a communicant of St. Francis’ Church.
He enjoyed vacations to the ocean, fishing and skiing.
His wife, the former Margaret DeMarco, whom he married July 7, 1946, in North Adams, died Sept. 15, 2001.
He leaves two daughters, Patricia J. Tucker of Pittsfield and Kathleen A. Sherman of Richmond, and two grandsons.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Thomas H. Sherman, 81, died April 12, 2003. He is survived by his loving grandsons, Sean P. and Matthew L. Tucker; his son-in-law, Robert J. Tucker, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, John Sherman. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated tomorrow, April 15, at 10 at St. Francis Xavier Church by the Rev. Paul Bombardier, pastor. At his request, Mr. Sherman chose to advance the cause of medicine at Harvard Medical School. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
