Jack H. Paley

Jack H. Paley, 81, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Pittsfield, died Thursday at Naples Community Hospital.
Born July 12, 1921, in New York City, son of David and Lydia Gasner Paley, he was a graduate of Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., and attended Columbia University.
Mr. Paley later served as a member of the Army ski troops’ 10th Mountain Division.
He was a resident of Pittsfield from 1945 to 1979 and was the owner of the Berkshire Hills Shop, a men and boys clothing store, from 1962 to 1979.
Both he and his wife, the former June Ravage, had been residents of Naples since 1977.
Mr. Paley was a recognized ski instructor at the Concord Hotel in upstate New York and remained an avid skier for many years at Bousquet, Brodie Mountain and Jiminy Peak.
He was also a Coast Guard licensed skipper and, upon retirement in 1979, he and his wife set out on a two-year sailing adventure throughout the Caribbean. He was a member of the Port Royal Club and an active volunteer for Citizens to Preserve Naples Bay.
Besides his wife of 58 years, he leaves a daughter, Jill Paley of San Jose, Calif.; a son Jeffrey Paley of Northbrook, Ill.; a brother, EdwardPaley of Saddle River, N.J., and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, James and John Paley.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- He will be missed by friends and family and by all that knew of his penchant for telling a good story. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 13, at Temple Shalom, 4630 Pine Ridge Road Extension, Naples, at 10.
