Ruth E. Wright

Ruth E. Wright, 79, of 32 Old Stockbridge Road died Wednesday morning at home.

Born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Dec. 21, 1923, daughter of Robert J. and Ethel C. Hambidge Gray, she moved as a child to Great Barrington with her family and attended local schools.

She was a 1942 graduate of the former Searles High School and a 1945 graduate of the former Henry W. Bishop III Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield.

A registered nurse, she was employed by the former Edgecombe Nursing Home in Lenox for 18 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to this, she worked for Dr. Carl A. Bergan in Lenox for 12 years.

Mrs. Wright was a member of Trinity Church in Lenox and its craft guild, sang in the church choir and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.

She was a Brownie leader and a member of the Henry W. Bishop III Alumnae Association. As a young girl, she was a member of the Girls Friendly Society.

Her husband, Stanley F. Wright, whom she married Sept. 1, 1946, died March 5, 1997.

She leaves three daughters, Dianne R. Pierce of Singer, La., Deborah J. Haskins of Farmington, Conn., and Doreen W. LaFlam of Swanton, Vt.; a brother, Robert J. Gray Jr. of Sebastian, Fla.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Ruth G. Wright is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Andrea Nicholls, Jessica Miller, Thomas Pierce Jr., Elissa Haskins, Keith Haskins, Jason LaFlam and Sarah LaFlam, and her beloved great-grandchildren, including Gary Arthur Pierce who for four years lived with his great-grandmother.

The funeral will be Saturday, April 5, at 11 at Trinity Church in Lenox with the Rev. Nancy Miller, interim rector of Trinity, and the Rev. Stephen Harding of New York City officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make memorial donations in Ruth’s memory to either HospiceCare of the Berkshires or the Berkshire Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
