William J. Suttle

William J. Suttle, 66, of 70 Trafton Road, Springfield, formerly of 10 Union Court, died Wednesday at home following a brief illness.

He moved to Springfield several years ago.

Born in Bristol, Conn., on Aug. 27, 1936, son of William H. and Gertrude Hoctor Shuttle, he was a graduate of Bristol High School and Hartford State Technical Institute.

He served in the Coast Guard for six years.

Mr. Suttle moved to Pittsfield in 1972 and was employed as a sexton at Morningside Baptist Church, retiring in 1982.

Previously, he had worked for Royal Typewriter Co. in Hartford, Conn.

While in Pittsfield, he was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. He was active in several environmental groups, including the Massachusetts Audubon Society and the Appalachian Mountain and Greylock Mineral clubs.

While in Springfield, he was a communicant of Holy Name of Jesus Church.

He leaves three sisters, Margaret Spencer of South Paris, Maine, Marion Firestone of Jeannette, Pa., and Martina Nehrig of Irwin, Pa.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- William J. Suttle, age 66, died April 2, 2003. He is also survived by his cousin and her husband, Eileen and Franklin Quinn of Dalton; his nephew, Matthew Power; and his niece, Kathleen Bushey of Lewiston, Maine.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Audubon Society in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
