Catherine T. Mele, 94, formerly of 132 High St., died yesterday at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided since 1992.
Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on Jan. 29, 1909, daughter of Joseph and Filomena Daniele Arcuri, she graduated in 1927 from high school there. She moved to Pittsfield in 1927.
Mrs. Mele was employed by A.H. Rice for five years, retiring in 1964. She also had worked at the former Elmvale Worsted Co. for 23 years and at GE for a short time. She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of its Ladies’ Guild. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, tatting, crocheting and growing flowers.
Her husband, Jules M. Mele, whom she married April 14, 1928, at Mount Carmel Church, died Nov. 25, 1996.
She leaves a son, Nicholas J. Mele of Pittsfield; a daughter, Philomena M. Superchi of Pittsfield and Juno Beach, Fla.; a brother, Dr. John Costanzo of Niagara Falls; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Catherine T. Arcuri Mele, 94, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003. The funeral will be Thursday, April 3, at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, April 3, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. The Mount Carmel Ladies’ Guild will form an honor guard at the funeral home and church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in care of the funeral home.
Beloved mother of Nicholas J. Mele and Philomena M. Superchi; loving grandmother of William K. Mele, Mary E. Shook and Kathleen A. Mele; and loving great-grandmother of Sara L. Collard, Kaitlyn M. Shook and Kevin M. Shook. Dear sister of Dr. John Costanzo. She was predeceased by two brothers, Philip Costanzo and Joseph Costanzo, and a sister, Mary Miotto.
