Arthur R. Burnell, 71, of 11 Curtis Terrace died Tuesday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on June 9, 1931, son of Ernest Francis Burnell Sr. and Irene Chamberlain Burnell, he attended local schools.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Burnell was employed as an anodizer in the ordnance department at GE for 25 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of United Methodist Church of Lenox. He also was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 446 in Lanesboro and a member of the volunteer fire department at GE.
He and his wife, the former Betsy Beeler, were married Nov. 25, 1954.
Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Michael Burnell of Pittsfield, Timothy Burnell of Chicopee, Charles Burnell of North Adams and Gary Burnell of Adams; three daughters, Karen Smith of Lanesboro, and Carol Burnell and Deborah Provencher, both of Pittsfield; seven sisters, Mary Krusel of Cazenovia, Calif., Doris Howlett of Southbridge, Barbara Baker of Dudley, Helen Canty of Spencer, Laura Rollins of Westfield, Joyce Beals and Barbara Dupe, both of Pittsfield, and 11 grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Arthur R. Burnell, who died March 25, 2003, will be Saturday at 11 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with the Rev. Eric Dupee, pastor of Lenox United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
Mr. Burnell was predeceased by a brother, Ernest F. Burnell Jr., and a sister, Peggy Hubbard. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Endowment Fund at the Lenox United Methodist Church.
