Helen J. Britigan

Helen J. Britigan, 79, formerly of Rose Manor Apartments, Elberon Avenue, died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center. She had resided at Craneville Place of Dalton for five years.
Born in Stephentown, N.Y., on Dec. 2, 1923, daughter of Edward and Lottie Godfrey Cahill, she attended schools in Berlin, N.Y., and moved to Pittsfield in 1950.
Mrs. Britigan was employed by the city of Pittsfield as a school crossing guard; she held the post at the corner of Elm Street and Meadow Lane for 18 years. During World War II, she had worked at GE in Pittsfield and at the Army Depot in Schenectady, N.Y. She enjoyed hunting and fishing and, in her younger years, raced stock cars at the Powder Puff Derby in New York state.
Her husband, William C. Britigan, whom she married in 1954, died Sept. 22, 1969. She leaves her son, William E. Britigan of Haverhill; a sister, Doris McCarthy of Yonkers, N.Y., and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Helen J. Britigan, died Thursday, March 20, 2003. The funeral will be Saturday, March 22, at 10:30 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. William D. Furey officiating. Burial will be later in the spring in Baptist Cemetery, Berlin, N.Y. Calling hours will be today, March 21, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Berkshire United Way in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. She also leaves her two grandchildren, James W. Britigan and Jeffrey W. Britigan; her caregivers and nieces, Mary Ann Herrick and Phyllis Tatom, and several other nieces and nephews, and her daughter-in-law, Deborah M. Britigan.
