Edythe P. Reid, 75, formerly of Cole Avenue, died Sunday at Williamstown Commons, where she had resided since June 2000.
Born in Pittsfield on April 23, 1927, daughter of John and Estella Grant Persip, she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1947.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Reid was employed as a kitchen helper at Nessacus Middle School in Dalton for a few years and as a child-care worker at Easy Street Daycare Center in Lenox for a short time.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and its Anna Fleet Chapter, the Beulah Chapter of Order of Eastern Star 14, American Legion Auxiliary Post 155, the Hillcrest Hospital and Berkshire Medical Center auxiliaries, and VFW Auxiliary Post 448.
Her husband, Napoleon Reid, whom she married Nov. 14, 1963, died in 1987.
She leaves a son, Guy A. Reid of Boston; a stepson, Ronald Reid of Portsmouth, N.H.; three stepdaughters, Linda Reid of Provo, Utah, Carol Ivery of Pittsfield and Sheila Brown of Dallas; two sisters, Mildred E. Persip and Frances P. Duval, both of Pittsfield, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Edythe P. Reid will be conducted Saturday at 11 at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Rennie, pastor. Following cremation, burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery at the family's convenience. Calling hours at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME will be Friday from 5 to 8.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Memorial Fund at First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
