Vincent S. Magnano, 84, of 51 Longfellow Ave. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on June 12, 1918, son of Thomas S. Magnano and Rose Monito Magnano Genovese, he graduated in 1936 from Pittsfield High School and from Manhattan Barber School.
Mr. Magnano was employed by GE in the ordnance department for 36 years, retiring in 1980. He was also a barber, retiring in 1989.
He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and in charge of its kitchen for many years. He was a member of the GE Athletic Association, the Italian American Club and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He enjoyed gardening and swimming.
He and his wife, the former Phyllis M. Pannesco, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Nov. 20. They were married in Mount Carmel Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Vincent F. Magnano of Pittsfield and Peter S. Magnano of Hinsdale; two daughters, Diane P. McCluskey of Berkshire Village in Lanesboro and Therese M. Penzar of Stow, Ohio; a brother, Anthony J. Magnano of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. A daughter, Rosemarie Pharmer, died Aug. 24, 2000.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Vincent S. Magnano, 84, died in Pittsfield on Saturday, March 8. The funeral will be tomorrow, Tuesday, at 9:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Charles' Church in care of the funeral home. He was predeceased by a son-in-law and daughter, Allan and Rosemarie Pharmer, and by a brother, Paul "Andy" Magnano.
